Thursday nights in August is well-known for live jazz
and blues music in Noelridge Park
in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. KCCK 88.3 a local college radio station is very focused on
keeping those genres of music alive. Their Jazz Under the
Stars series brings the community together every week for
exquisite live music in a very much relaxed atmosphere. I absolutely love it.
Last night the lineup featured a selection of top blues musicians who call Iowa
their home. To see Kevin Burt, Billylee Janey, Bryce Janey, Dennis “Daddy-O” McMurrin and the Mighty Mouse Rhythm Section comprised of ‘DJ’ Dan Johnson, and Eric Douglas
all on stage together is nothing less than spectacular. Opening for this Iowa-based
blues super-group was 10th Street
Rapids, a very talented youth group which I am sure we
will hear more from.
