For the fourth year in a row,
I’ve made it down to Memphis for the Blues Music Awards. One of my favorite events during this week is the
BratGirlmedia All-Star Showcase at Rum Boogie Café, an annual benefit
for autism. This year, the show opened
with the fabulous Erin Harpe and Jim Countryman. Derrick Dove and the Peacekeepers who
won the 2026 International Blues Challenge took the stage next. Following up next was a spectacular blues jam
hosted by Gabe Stillman, with Rodd Bland on drums, and Rome
McMinn on bass. They absolutely set
the stage on fire with an amazing lineup of blues stars: John Primer, Kenny
Neal, Johnny Rawls with Destiny Rawls, Bob Corritore, Dawn
Tyler Watson, Laura Chavez, Dylan Triplett, DK Harrell,
Sean McDonald, Young Rell Davenport, Long Tall Deb and Colin
John, Amanda Fish, Anthony Geraci, Teeny Tucker, Billy
Price, Tony Braunagel, Derrick Dove, Michael Tash, Richard
Rosenblatt, and Michael Mudcat Ward.
It was an unexpected treat to see Christone “Kingfish” Ingram
and Tom Hambridge make an appearance for a few songs as well. It was a stunning evening of music to say the
least.
